In September 2021, Dawson broke the ice with a cheesy but endearing pickup line that instantly caught Laurel’s attention. Their connection sparked quickly, and even though Laurel deleted the app shortly after, Dawson wasn’t about to let her slip away.

With patience and persistence, Dawson stayed in touch, waiting for the perfect moment to ask her out. Finally, in December, their schedules aligned, and their first date was nothing short of magical—or cinematic.

The First Date: Spider-Man and Lasagna

On their first date, Dawson pulled out all the stops. He cooked lasagna (hello, boyfriend material) and lined up a Spider-Man movie marathon that perfectly mixed comfort with fun. The evening ended with a trip to the theater to see Spider-Man: No Way Home, sealing their night with superhero action and undeniable sparks.

This wasn’t just a first date—it was the start of something extraordinary. It’s no surprise that a second date was soon on the horizon.

The Proposal: A Dreamy Barr Lake Engagement

Fast forward to Barr Lake, the site of their second date and the place where Dawson decided to pop the question. On a sunny, crystal-clear day, they walked to the gazebo where it all began. Laurel had a feeling something special might happen, but Dawson’s cool demeanor gave nothing away.

As Laurel looked through the binoculars, Dawson delivered a line that melted her heart:
“The first time we were here, I didn’t even look through them. I must’ve been too busy looking at you.”
