As a Colorado wedding photographer, there’s nothing I love more than getting to know my couples before the big day, and this session was the perfect way to do just that.

✨ Getting to Know Julie & Aaron

We met up at McKay Lake for a quick and casual engagement session so we could meet face-to-face before their wedding day at Lionsgate Event Center in August 2025—and let me tell you, I’m so glad we did!

Julie and Aaron are that perfect mix of sweet, funny, and completely real. From the moment they arrived, it was clear how well they connect. I asked them if they had any exciting plans after our shoot, and Aaron casually said they were getting McDonald’s for dinner. I laughed out loud because that’s exactly what my husband and I would do. It was such a refreshingly honest and relatable answer.

🌿 Why McKay Lake Was the Perfect Backdrop

After several rainy and chilly days, Colorado finally gave us a break. The skies cleared, the trees were lush and green, and the lake gave us a perfect backdrop for portraits full of light, joy, and genuine love. It’s one of my favorite hidden gem engagement session locations in Broomfield, and this day made it even more special.

📖 Their Love Story (It’s a Good One)

Julie and Aaron’s story began by working together for years, then after meeting at a hiring conference, they slowly started chatting and getting to know one another. The first year of their relationship was long-distance, but the bond they built was strong. A year and a half later, they moved in together, and eventually got engaged during a fantastic trip to the Grand Tetons. (Swoon!)

They’re happiest on quiet weekends at home, enjoying outdoor adventures like hiking, camping, and fishing, or hitting their favorite local bar. They’re each other’s best friend—whether they’re sharing a laugh or watching movies curled up on the couch.

When I asked them what they love most about each other, Julie said she loves Aaron’s sense of humor, his genuine heart, and his contagious personality. Aaron listed Julie’s kindness, her sense of humor, and the fact that she “puts up with him.” Relationship goals, am I right?

💍 Counting Down to Lionsgate

We’re so excited to capture Julie and Aaron’s wedding day at Lionsgate Event Center in Lafayette, Colorado on August 29, 2025. If this engagement session is any hint of what’s to come, their wedding is going to be filled with laughter, love, and some seriously unforgettable moments.
